Darling Family Day: Tree Planting Ceremony to Honor the Darlings

Join us for a very special tree planting ceremony open to the public to honor the Darling Family and their many land gifts in Zoar Valley!
Help us say thank you for land gifts to the public over six decades by Herbert Sr. & Bertha Darling, Herbert Jr. and Jane Darling, and the Darling Family. Their generous land gifts in Zoar also helped form nature preserves by The Nature Conservancy and The Nature Sanctuary Society of Western New York.
While many people have worked to preserve and protect Zoar Valley, it all started with the gifts to The People of New York State made in the spirit of conservation and sharing access to the great outdoors embodied by the Darling family.
Herbert Darling, Jr. and the Darling Family have also played a major role in the conservation work being done to restore the American Chestnut tree to Eastern forests through their work at the William White American Chestnut Plantation in Zoar Valley.
This event is open to the public. Come out to Zoar to say thank you to the Darlings! There will be live music by Jane Hereth.
We’re planting two White Oak trees, both generously donated by Chestnut Ridge Nursery, Inc., www.chestnutridgenursery.com
The ceremony is next to the Ross Pond Trailhead parking lot at Vail and Unger Roads in the Town of Collins.
